Lila: Joju McCabe
I wanted the protagonist of my film to be a young woman between 16-20 years old. I felt that this character needed to be a young woman because it would adhere to the horror genre trope of the 'final girl'. However, because my film was taking a different, more expressionistic tone to the typical slasher horror genre, I wanted to move away from the typical 'blonde bombshell' victim image seen in a lot of horror movies.
The Southwark Strangler: Gabriel Ward
I wanted the serial killer of my film to have a lot of presence in my film, so I needed someone taller than my protagonist to play the villain. Because a prominent element of the story was the idea of men preying on and controlling women, I wanted the killer to have bright, noticeable eyes to further the sense of voyeurism and the feeling that Lila was being watched very closely.
