Location Scouting 1: Field

For the outdoor part of my film, I wanted to use a place that had both an open area and a more forest-y bit. I wanted a proper forest to film the bit in which Lila is chased by the Southwark Strangler because I thought it would add to the feeling of isolation that I wanted to create. I needed a place that had lots of trees and very little pathway to make it seem more realistic.

The open field part would have been for the very end of the film where Lila emerges from the woods in a sort of trance. I thought the blank open space in the light would contrast well with the thick woods at night that most of the film takes part in.

I found that Green Dale fields had both the open field and forest area that I wanted. There was an astroturf area that looked quite run down which I really liked for the part where Lila initially takes the shortcut. I also thought that despite being a bit small, the plain field bit would work for the ending of the film. The actual forest had enough trees but it was a bit close to some houses. I didn't want any houses to be seen in the footage because it would take away from the isolation, but there was enough space to avoid the houses being shown.
