Echo

I thought the initial opening of the film was clever as it was initially unclear who the ringing was coming from. I felt that this helped to emphasise the fact that Caroline was blending into the crowd and hide the twist of the story.

The long shot of Caroline calming down in the taxi created a sense of confusion and then realisation for the audience as they find out that she has just conned these people. I felt that this made the reveal more satisfying for the viewer.

The wide shot of Caroline smoking outside the house made her seem quite alone, especially juxtaposed with the shot of her family indoors.

I thought the second reveal of the fact that Caroline's dad had actually died in a motorcycle accident was well done as the silence allows the audience to reflect on the younger brother's line.

The non-linear narrative of the film helps to emphasise the severity of the initial incident that caused Caroline to become like this, with the final sequence being of Caroline actually receiving the call about her dad. The fact that she's wearing different clothes helps the viewer to separate this occasion from the rest of the film and the short shots from different angles exemplify the genuine panic she is experiencing in contrast to her acting seen earlier in the film. I felt that sequence being at the end of the film instead of at the beginning worked better than having a linear narrative, as the previous film alluded to this, building up the audience's suspicions rather than not having a twist at the end.
