Costume

 Lila's costume: [add photo]

  • Flowery dress
  • Brown jacket
  • Gold watch
I wanted Lila's costume to be pretty and feminine so as to emphasise the relationship between her and the Strangler of a woman being preyed on by a man. I thought that by using a pink flowery dress it would make the eventual turn of events more shocking for the viewer when Lila emerges from the trees covered in blood. The imagery of delicate flowers being covered in blood seemed contradictory which I thought worked well. I also decided to add the gold watch because it added to the delicate tone of the costume and the brown jacket simply because the character would be cold in the scene.

The Southwark Strangler's costume: [add photo]
  • Black jacket
  • Black trousers
  • Mask
For the Southwark Strangler, I wanted a more simple costume of all black clothing so that it would appear that the killer was blending into the dark. I also wanted a mask for the the Strangler to mask his identity and add to the sense that the killer was able to be interpreted in different ways. In the end I went with this grey and black mask that had large eye holes to allow the viewer to see his eyes and emphasise the fact that he was watching Lila's every move. I didn't want to make the mask too gimmicky to take away from the tension of the film so I thought that this one worked best.
